ESSENTIAL OIL SAFETY DURING PREGNANCY

A calm and simple guide for your pregnancy journey.

Why this matters

During pregnancy, your body moves through constant shifts and changes. Essential oils can offer emotional support, comfort, and relaxation — but they must be used with care to protect both you and your baby.

In every treatment, I use oils that are gentle, clinically safe, and appropriate for the stage of pregnancy you’re in.You never have to worry about what’s safe — I take care of that for you.

How I keep your treatments safe

✔️ Gentle, pregnancy-appropriate dilutions Oils are always blended at low strengths suitable for pregnancy.

✔️ Avoiding any oils that affect hormones or uterine tone I exclude oils known to stimulate the uterus or influence hormones.

✔️ No abdominal application during pregnancy Treatments focus on the back, legs, feet, hands, or inhalation only.

✔️ Only professionally tailored blends I never use generic pregnancy blends that may contain unsafe oils.

✔️ Your blend adapts as your body changes Each session is adjusted according to your trimester and how you’re feeling.

Oils I commonly use during pregnancy

Chosen for comfort, calm, grounding, and emotional balance:

  • Lavender

  • Roman chamomile

  • Frankincense

  • Mandarin or sweet orange

  • Lemon

  • Bergamot (sun-safe)

  • Grapefruit

  • Sandalwood

  • Cedarwood

  • Patchouli

  • Neroli

  • Vetiver (very small amounts)

These support relaxation, steadiness, and the nervous system without placing stress on the body.

Oils I avoid during pregnancy

To keep you and your baby safe, I do not use:

  • Clary sage (until after 37 weeks)

  • Jasmine (until labour)

  • Sage (Dalmatian)

  • Fennel

  • Basil (estragole-rich types)

  • Anise or star anise

  • Oregano

  • Thyme

  • Wintergreen

  • Cinnamon

  • Camphor

  • Hot or uterine-stimulating oils

  • Any “hormone-balancing” blends

These oils can influence hormones, uterine tissue, or are too strong for pregnancy.

How I tailor blends to each trimester

1st Trimester

Gentle oils only, very light dilutions, and a focus on emotional support and nausea relief.

2nd Trimester

A wider range of oils becomes suitable; blends may support relaxation, sleep, and muscular comfort.

3rd Trimester

Grounding, calming oils are prioritised; certain oils (like clary sage) remain avoided until term.

Your blend is always matched to your stage and how your body feels on the day.

What you may notice during pregnancy treatments

You might feel:

  • calmer and more regulated

  • more grounded

  • emotionally supported

  • soothed physically

  • able to rest more deeply

  • comforted through body changes

The intention is to support your body gently and safely — never to stimulate or overwhelm it.

If you ever feel unsure

Please ask me anything — there are no silly questions. Your safety and comfort always come first, and I’m here to guide you with clinical care and compassionate support every step of the way.
