The science behind The Living Apothecary Method™
At Hummingbird Holistics®, every treatment begins with a simple question:
"What does your wellbeing need today?"
No two people walk through the Sanctuary carrying the same story. Some arrive feeling physically exhausted, others emotionally overwhelmed, while many simply long for an hour of peace in an increasingly busy world.
This is why every Infusion experience is personalised.
Using The Living Apothecary Method™, we combine consultation, clinical reflexology, personalised aromatherapy and therapeutic presence to create a treatment that is as individual as you are.
But why these therapies?
A tradition supported by growing research
Reflexology has been practised for many years as a complementary therapy to encourage relaxation and support wellbeing.
Today, researchers continue to explore how reflexology may influence the body and mind.
A 2026 randomised controlled trial found that healthy adults who received 20 minutes of foot reflexology each day for ten days demonstrated improvements in measures of attention and reaction time compared with a control group. While the authors recommended larger studies before firm conclusions can be drawn, the findings suggest reflexology may have wider effects on wellbeing than relaxation alone.
Other systematic reviews have found that reflexology may help reduce anxiety and pain in some healthcare settings when used alongside conventional medical care. Although further high-quality research is still needed, these findings continue to build an encouraging evidence base for the profession.
As a reflexologist, I welcome this research. It helps us better understand what clients have often described for many years—that after treatment they frequently feel calmer, clearer and more balanced.
The remarkable power of scent
Our sense of smell is closely linked with the parts of the brain involved in memory and emotion.
You may have experienced this yourself.
The scent of lavender reminding you of a peaceful holiday.
Fresh rosemary bringing back memories of a family garden.
The smell of freshly baked bread transporting you straight back to childhood.
Researchers are now investigating how essential oils may support emotional wellbeing and relaxation. Recent systematic reviews suggest that aromatherapy may reduce anxiety and positively influence some physiological measures, particularly within healthcare environments. While scientists continue to investigate exactly how these effects occur, the evidence continues to grow.
At Hummingbird Holistics®, aromatherapy is never about choosing a fragrance because it smells nice.
Every personalised blend is selected following your consultation, taking into account your wellbeing goals, preferences and individual circumstances. Your blend becomes part of your unique treatment experience.
Why personalisation matters
Research tells us what may help groups of people.
Your consultation tells us what matters to you.
This combination of evidence, professional training and individual care is at the heart of every treatment I provide.
Rather than following a standard routine, each appointment is guided by your consultation and may include personalised aromatherapy, reflexology, mindfulness, breathing techniques or other complementary approaches that best support your wellbeing on that day.
Evidence with honesty
One of the values that sits at the heart of Hummingbird Holistics® is honesty.
Complementary therapies are not intended to replace medical diagnosis or treatment.
Instead, they are used alongside conventional healthcare to support relaxation, emotional wellbeing and quality of life.
Some areas of reflexology and aromatherapy are supported by encouraging scientific evidence.
Other areas remain emerging fields where more research is needed.
I believe it is important to share both.
That is why, as part of your Infusion membership, I will increasingly be sharing accessible summaries of current research, helping you understand not only what we do during your treatments, but also why.
A journey of wellbeing
Infusion is more than a treatment membership.
It is an invitation to slow down.
To reconnect with yourself.
To experience thoughtful, personalised care grounded in compassion, professional practice and an ever-growing understanding of the science that supports wellbeing.
Every appointment is another step on your own wellbeing journey.
I am honoured to walk that path alongside you.
